Abstract

Stainless Steel 304 is the most commonly used  alloy metal as equipment in the chemical industry. In use, these alloys are always in contact with corrosive environments (acids, bases, salts) so that a protection is needed so that the metal has a long service life. To increase the service life of alloy, the inhibitor is chosen. An inhibitor  is an additive that is added  to the environment so that it can reduce  metal damage by controlling the rate of corrosion. Control the corrosion  rate with inhibitors selected  natural ingredients that are environmentally friendly. This research was carried out using SS 304 alloy metal in a 3.5% NaCl environment, variations of inhibitors of papaya leaf  extract and  leek extract each  in the range of 100 ppm  to 500 ppm. For the analysis used potentiostat obtained  the best conditions for papaya leaves at a concentration of 100 ppm obtained a decrease in the corrosion rate of  98.98% and for leek extract at a concentration of  300 ppm  obtained a decrease in the corrosion rate of 99, 4551%
